History

Originally called 'Woodpecker Apple' for attracting woodpeckers. Renamed after Colonel Loammi Baldwin, a Revolutionary War veteran who propagated it. Was the most popular apple in the US until the severe winter of 1933-34 killed millions of Baldwin trees.
