Origin and History

ARMOREL was raised by Mr. Charles Ross and introduced by Messrs. Cheal in 1893. It was first published in the Gardeners' Chronicle on 4 March 1893. The variety is now almost out of cultivation, as it is considered too small for present-day needs.

Fruit

Size and form: Very small, measuring 2¼ by 1¾ inches, oblong and regular in shape.

Skin: Yellow, covered with russet.

Stem: Short, inserted in a medium-sized cavity.

Calyx and basin: Eye closed, set in a deep and wide basin.

Flesh and flavor: Crisp flesh of good flavor.

ARMOREL. Gard. Chron., 1893, March 4th. Dessert, February to May, very small, 2¼ by 1¾, oblong, regular. Colour, yellow, covered with russet. Flesh, crisp, of good flavour. Eye, closed in a deep and wide basin. Stem, short, in a medium sized cavity. Growth, moderate, fertility moderate. Origin, raised by Mr. Charles Ross, and introduced by Messrs. Cheal, in 1893. Now almost out of cultivation, as it is too small for present day needs.
