Bisbee Red was received by the USDA Agricultural Research Service in 1957 from Roy Bisbee of Hood River, Oregon. The variety was documented at the Agricultural Experiment Station of Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, as part of H.H. Fisher's comprehensive survey of apple clones in the United States (1963).
