Black Crofton was received from Tasmania in 1957 at the reporting station MdC (Maryland station). An additional accession was received in 1960 from Glenn Dale, Maryland, assigned USDA Plant Introduction number 242010. This accession was distributed to reporting stations MoC (Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri) and WaP (Agricultural Research Service, Irrigation Experiment Station, Prosser, Washington), with local station accession numbers 70 and AP-H-363.
