Origin & History

An old variety that originated in Hartford County, Connecticut. Known also as Connecticut Red Streak and Connecticut Red Side.

Tree Characteristics

Vigorous and upright spreading in habit. Bears very productive, though in alternate years (biennial bearing pattern).

Fruit Description

Size & Form: Rather large, roundish oblate.

Skin & Surface: Pale ground with a bright red cheek. Surface occasionally exhibits a few obscure splashes and stripes. Scattered brown dots present.

Stem & Cavity: Stalk short and small. Cavity large and deep.

Calyx & Basin: Calyx closed. Basin large, deep, and slightly corrugated.

Flesh & Flavor: White, half fine in texture, crisp, tender, and juicy. Flavor mild subacid. Quality rated good to very good.

Core: Medium.

Season

October to November.

Fruit rather large, roundish oblate; skin pale, with a bright red cheek, sometimes a few obscure splashes and stripes, and a few scattering brown dots; stalk short, small; cavity large, deep; calyx closed; basin large, deep, slightly corrugated; flesh white, half fine, crisp, tender, juicy, mild subacid; good to very good; core medium. October, November.
