Origin and History

Delcon is a cross of Conrad × Delicious, selected in 1929. The variety was received by multiple institutions from different nursery sources: Henry Field Nursery (Shenandoah, Iowa); Inter-State Nursery (Hamburg, Iowa); and Fruit Experiment Station (Mount Grove, Missouri, introduced 1948). It was also distributed by Gurney Seed & Nursery (Yankton, South Dakota) and Earl May Seed Co. (Shenandoah, Iowa).

Size and form: Medium size, conical in shape.

Surface: Almost entirely striped.

Flesh: Cream-colored, subacid. Flavor is described as fair; the fruit most nearly resembles Delicious in character and taste. Quality is noted as good flavor overall.
