A Belgian pear raised from seed in 1817 in Hainaut (Hainault) by M. Devergnies of Mons. Hedrick cites Annales de Pomologie Belge 6:57, fig. (1858) and Leroy, Dictionnaire de Pomologie 2:24, fig. (1869).

Size and Form: Medium. Downing describes the form as roundish short pyriform; Hedrick describes it as turbinate-obtuse, much corrugated at summit.

Skin: The two sources differ. Downing describes the skin as dull yellow, shaded and blotched with brownish red in the sun, with dark russet dots and specks. Hedrick describes it as olive-green, nearly covered with gray-russet and slightly clouded with orange-red on the side next the sun.
Flesh and Flavor: Downing describes the flesh as whitish, half fine, and sweet, rating the variety Good. Hedrick describes the flesh as yellowish-white, fine, melting, and buttery, with juice abundant, acidulous, sugary, and aromatic, rating the variety second quality.
