Origin and Classification

An Austrian perry pear, referenced in Loschnig Mostbirnen (1913).

Fruit Description

Size and Form: Small; obtuse-turbinate, somewhat globular in shape.

Color and Surface: Green, changing to yellow when fully ripe. Surface dotted with yellow-brown spots and marked with cinnamon-russet; blushed on the sun-exposed side.

Flesh and Flavor: Tough, light yellow flesh. Very astringent, subacid, and very juicy.

Season

October.

Use

Perry pear — cultivated for perry production rather than fresh consumption.
