Federovka was received by the USDA Agricultural Research Service from Thomas Mannseichner of Pfaffenhoffen/Ilm, Bavaria, Germany. The variety was documented in H.H. Fisher's A Survey of Apple Clones in the United States (1963) under USDA Station accession number J-463 and reported by the Agricultural Experiment Station at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus.
