Irish Pippin originated with Stephen A. Porter of Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Tree
The tree is a free, upright grower, forming a handsome head. It is very productive in alternate years. Young shoots are smooth and reddish brown.

Fruit is medium to large in size. Form is roundish oblate, sometimes roundish, and slightly conical.

Stalk very short and small.

Cavity medium, sometimes a little russeted.

Skin
Skin whitish, shaded with light bright red, striped and broken splashes of dark red, and a few light and brown dots. The Encyclopedia of Practical Horticulture describes the color as striped or splashed red.

Flesh white, tender, juicy, mild subacid, slightly vinous. Quality rated very good.
Core/Seeds
Core rather small.
Season
October and November (Downing). The Encyclopedia of Practical Horticulture lists the season as winter.

Suitable for both kitchen and market use.
