Jongrimes was received by the USDA Agricultural Research Service from Stark Bros. Nursery, Louisiana, Missouri, and was documented in H.H. Fisher's 1963 survey of apple clones in the United States. The variety was also obtained from Moses Fell Annex Farms, Bedford, Indiana.

Fruit

Size and form: Small to medium; round.

Skin: 90% splashed red.

Flesh: Semifirm, creamy, subacid. Flavor described as very good.
