Origin and History

King Cole was received in the United States from New Zealand on two separate occasions. The first introduction was in 1958, accession received at the U.S. Plant Introduction Station, Glenn Dale, Maryland (reporting station MdG), assigned Plant Introduction number 249925. A second specimen was received in 1961 from D. W. McKenzie at the Fruit Research Orchard, Goddard Lane, Maveloch North, New Zealand, with the reporting station being the Agricultural Experiment Station, Department of Pomology, Geneva, New York (reporting station NyG).
