Origin and History
Kirby Red was documented in the USDA Agricultural Research Service collection as of 1963. Two accessions were maintained: one (AP-H-85) received from R. L. Klackle of Lafayette, Indiana, and a second (AP-H-186) sourced from Ilgenfritz Nursery of Monroe, Michigan. The variety was held at the Agricultural Research Service, Irrigation Experiment Station in Prosser, Washington.
