Longsdail was received from the Central Experimental Farm, Ottawa, Canada, as documented in H.H. Fisher's A Survey of Apple Clones in the United States (1963). No USDA Plant Introduction number was recorded for this variety. The variety was maintained at the University of Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station, St. Paul Campus, under station number N4947.
