Manred was received in the United States from England in 1941 and assigned USDA Plant Introduction number 141240. It was evaluated at multiple U.S. stations, including the U.S. Plant Introduction Station at Glenn Dale, Maryland, and the Northern Great Plains Field Station at Mandan, North Dakota, where it was assigned station number 9823.

Size and form: Approximately 7 fruits per pound; round.

Skin: Pink-red.

Flavor: Tart; reported as fairly good.
