Marechal was received into the USDA plant introduction system in 1944 from the Agricultural Experiment Station at Geneva, New York, and from Glenn Dale, Maryland. It was assigned Plant Introduction number 148362.

Flavor and Use Characteristics: Very astringent. Suitable for cider production only.
