Origin / History

Specimens obtained from F. J. Peterson, Waconia, Minnesota, in 1902. Scions received from Sweden. Noted as an upright grower with hardiness approximately equivalent to the Duchess variety.

Upright growth habit. Hardiness comparable to Duchess.

Fruit

Size and Form
Below medium in size; roundish conic form; irregular outline.

Skin
Surface polished, yellow as base color. Almost entirely covered with dark red in a combination of solid and mixed overlay in sun-exposed areas. Multiple short dark crimson splashes present. Dots obscure, few in number, white in color.

Long.

Cavity
Wide, nearly flat, regular in form. Few faintly lipped edges.

Basin
Very shallow, wide, smooth.

Calyx
Closed. Segments connivent.

Core and Seeds
Core wide open. Cells abaxile, ovate, with slit-like opening. Tube funnel-shaped and narrow. Stamens marginal. Seeds rather small, not numerous; some imperfect (aborted).

Flesh and Flavor
Flesh white, fine-grained. Flavor pleasant, rich subacid with a sweet aftertaste. Quality rated very good.
