Origin and History A seedling raised by S.A. Shurtleff of Brookline, Massachusetts, and first fruited in 1861. Documented in the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Report (1865) and Downing's Fruit Trees of America (1869).

Fruit Very large, with a globular-obovate form that is somewhat irregular. Skin slightly rough, greenish-yellow in ground color with pale red coloration in the sun. Considerable russet appears next the base of the stalk, with traces of russet and conspicuous dots scattered over the entire surface. Flesh yellowish-white, rather coarse in texture, melting, juicy, and slightly vinous. Rated good in quality.

Season Early November.
