Summer Limbertwig

Apple

Summer Limbertwig

Origin/History

A Southern variety from Greensboro', North Carolina. Warder (1867) records having obtained it from S. Westbrooke of that location. Warder notes that his own trees procured under this name proved to be Rawle's Janet, and he therefore defers to Downing's account; he further remarks that what he had fruited and described as the Hocking may prove to be the same variety. Downing's 1900 entry is itself attributed to Warder, making both sources ultimately derived from the same original description.

Having been disappointed in my trees obtained for this variety, which proved to be Rawle's Janet, I prefer to quote from Mr. Downing. What I have fruited and described as the Hocking may prove to be the same.
