The Blair

My attention having been called to this variety, I last year propagated it and now offer one-year trees. The tree is apparently about eight years old in an old orchard on hills West of Portland within five or six miles of the Court House, and is thought to be a seedling. Experts have not been able to name it. As it is of superior merit I offer it under the above name, that of the man owning the property. The apple is shaped something like the Spitzenberg, very high red color with an exceedingly tough skin, making it a valuable shipper; also red veinings through the flesh, which is firm, juicy and of highest quality. Ripens about August 1st, though can be cooked June 15th and eaten as early as July 10th to 15th; unlike most of the early apples, it holds up well for a long season. The tree has borne regularly for four years, is vigorous and productive. It is recommended as a very superior variety for either market or home planting. Strong, one year trees, $1 each; 6 for $5.
