Origin & History

Originated in Dublin, New Hampshire.

Tree Characteristics

A vigorous grower with slender branches and notably productive bearing habit.

Fruit Description

Size & Form: Medium size, roundish conic shape.

Color & Surface: Red ground color shaded with purple, partially sprinkled with small gray dots distributed across the surface.

Stem (Stalk): Long and slender, inserted into a deep cavity.

Calyx & Basin: Calyx small and closed. Set in an abrupt, plaited basin.

Flesh: Very white in ground color, distinctly veined with red under the skin, and sometimes veined with red at the core. Texture is tender.

Flavor & Quality: Very sweet and pleasant. Overall quality rated as Good.

Season & Storage

November through December.

Twitchell's Sweet. Origin, Dublin, N. H.; a vigorous grower, with slender branches, and very productive. Fruit medium, roundish conic, red, shaded with purple, and partially sprinkled with small gray dots. Stalk long and slender, inserted in a deep cavity. Calyx small and closed, set in an abrupt, plaited basin. Flesh very white, veined with red under the skin, and sometimes at the core, tender, very sweet and pleasant. Good. November, December.
