A variety well known and esteemed for many years in the country around Mans in France. Documented in Leroy's Dictionnaire de Pomologie (1869) and Mas's Pomologie Générale (1880), where it was also known as Grosse Verte-Longue Precoce de la Sarthe.

Fruit

Form and Size: Nearly medium in size, globular-conic in form, obtuse at the apex.

Skin: Bright green in color, speckled with grayish dots, often rather russeted toward the poles. At maturity, the green changes to greenish-yellow.

Flesh and Flavor: Whitish flesh, fine in texture, very melting. Full of sugary juice with a vinous character relieved with a refreshing savor. Quality rated as good.
