Origin/History: First reported to the Illinois Horticultural Society in 1880 by C. S. Capps of Mt. Pulaski. The variety originated in Illinois and had resisted blight for a period of forty-five years in South Iowa by the time of its mention in a communication to the American Pomological Society in 1911 by Charles G. Patten of Charles City, Iowa.
