Origin and History
Kendall is a hybrid variety derived from a cross between McIntosh and Zusoff. It was introduced in 1932 and received by the USDA from the Agricultural Experiment Station at Geneva, New York. The variety was distributed and evaluated across numerous state agricultural experiment stations in the United States, including institutions in New York, Maine, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Oregon, North Dakota, Ohio, Iowa, and Connecticut. Station identification numbers 3616 and N5864 are associated with Kendall.
Fruit
Size and Form: Medium to large; round to oblate in shape.
Skin: Covered with red attractive stripes. One account describes the fruit as large and oblate with dull dark red coloration.
Flesh and Flavor: Whitish-green in color, semi-firm in texture, subacid in taste. Flavor is rated as fair.
Season: Ripens with McIntosh.
Uses
Noted as productive for fruit.
