A seedling raised by S. A. Shurtleff, Brookline, Massachusetts (No. 16), first fruited in 1862. First reported in the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Report, volume 44, in 1866.

Porter pears measure approximately 2¾ inches in diameter. The flesh is melting. The flavor is sweet and juicy. The fruit ripens soundly.
