Melon

Origin and History

Dutch origin. First described in Knoop's Pomology in 1766 and later documented in Leroy's Dictionnaire Pomologique (1869).

Fruit

Medium in size, typically pyriform, slightly obtuse, regular in outline, though sometimes a little uneven and crooked. When ripe, greenish-yellow ground color more or less marked with black or dark brown stains, giving it a poor appearance overall.

Flesh and Flavor

Delicate and gritty; rather succulent and savory but having no particular flavor. Not sprightly. Does not justify its name.

Season
