Dutch origin. First described in Knoop's Pomology in 1766 and later documented in Leroy's Dictionnaire Pomologique (1869).
Fruit
Medium in size, typically pyriform, slightly obtuse, regular in outline, though sometimes a little uneven and crooked. When ripe, greenish-yellow ground color more or less marked with black or dark brown stains, giving it a poor appearance overall.
Flesh and Flavor
Delicate and gritty; rather succulent and savory but having no particular flavor. Not sprightly. Does not justify its name.
