Origin / History
Of foreign origin and a promising variety (Downing). Planted at the Central Experimental Farm, Agassiz, B.C., in spring 1895, and listed in the Catalogue of Fruit Trees under Test (Bulletin No. 3, 1900).
Tree
Vigorous, a strong grower; upright, very productive (Downing).
Fruit
Size: Medium or above to large; Agassiz calls it large.
Form: Roundish oblate, slightly angular (Downing); roundish, conical (Agassiz).
Stem: Short, slender.
Cavity: Large, deep, a little greenish.
Calyx: Closed.
Basin: Quite large, moderately deep, slightly corrugated.
Skin: Yellow to dull yellow, splashed with red; Downing adds shaded and striped with light and dark red over the entire surface.
Dots: Few, scattering, light (Downing); gray (Agassiz).
Flesh and flavor: Flesh white, fine, tender, juicy. Mild subacid, or mildly acid. Quality "good to very good" (Downing).
Core and seeds: Core small.
Season
November to March. Downing gives November to February; the Agassiz trial gives January to March.
